Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP)

We at Northern Kentucky University in the College of Health Professions in the Department of Advanced Nursing Studies are in the process of developing a DNP program to start within the next two years pending legislative approval. The program development took into account the needs assessment that was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2009. Here are some basics. The DNP program will be approximately 40 semester credit hours. The DNP program will be an online program with defined campus interaction. This program will be a part-time post-masters nursing program. There will be a capstone project in the population of your choice. We are aware of the AACN 2015 recommendations and will be aligned with those as state laws change. These recommendations would make the DNP program change to a BSN to DNP program in the future.

Important Information About Course Offerings

All MSN nursing courses are offered in both online and face-to-face format.  Classes must have a minimum number of 10 registrants in order to offer the section based on University regulations.

More and more students are choosing the online sections over the face-to-face sections.  As a result, multiple face-to-face classes have not met the minimum registration requirements.  Therefore, it has been necessary to cancel the face-to-face section.

In the event that your face-to-face section of a particular class is cancelled you have the option to enroll in the online section of the course or to postpone taking the course until a future semester when a face-to-face section meets the minimum requirement of ten students.  Please remember that should you choose to take the online section of the course there is an additional online fee that cannot be waived.   We understand that online learning may not always be a student's first choice, however, we also must use faculty and course resources wisely.
